Custom Home Builder in The Dominion, San Antonio
San Antonio’s most recognized gated community – 1,500 acres and more than 20 distinct enclaves, a country club with a championship-grade golf course, and a standard of luxury that demands a builder who actually meets it.
The Dominion has been San Antonio’s benchmark for luxury residential living since the early 1980s and it has held that position by maintaining standards that most communities only aspire to. Building a custom home here isn’t just a construction project. It’s a commitment to a community with specific expectations, established architectural character, and a reputation worth protecting.
McNair Custom Homes has built in The Dominion and is actively developing The Bluff at The Dominion community within the guard-gated neighborhood – and we bring to every project here the same precision and personal accountability that earned us a place in this community in the first place. We have also built numerous homes with our build on your lot program (such as 11 Chaumont, pictured above) and helped build out neighborhoods like Andalucia at The Dominion.

San Antonio’s Most Recognized Luxury Address and What It Takes to Build There
The Dominion didn’t become San Antonio’s premier gated community by accident. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, developers looked at 1,500 acres of northwest San Antonio terrain along the I-10 corridor and set out to build something that San Antonio had never had – a master-planned, guard-gated community where the standards for security, design, and lifestyle were set at the highest level from the beginning and held there ever since.
The early architectural vision drew from European and Mediterranean traditions – clay tile roofs, arched doorways, and masonry exteriors that gave the community a visual coherence most developments never achieve. The Dominion Country Club opened as the social and recreational anchor, its championship golf course becoming a focal point for golf throughout the city. Enclaves were added through the 1990s and 2000s – The Renaissance, The Reserve, Les Chateaux, The Bluff, Andalucia, and more than a dozen others – each with its own character and price point, but all operating within the shared standard of what The Dominion represents.
Today, The Dominion is home to roughly 3,000 residents across more than 600 private homes and spans a range from beautifully maintained garden homes to multi-million-dollar estate builds on lots large enough to feel genuinely private. It sits just off I-10 West, minutes from The Rim and La Cantera retail and dining corridors, and about 25 minutes from downtown San Antonio. The Northside ISD schools that serve the community, including Clark High School, are among the most established in northwest San Antonio.
What The Dominion offers, above all else, is a community where the standard for what gets built here has been rigorously maintained across four decades. That’s rare. And it’s exactly why building here demands a builder who takes it seriously.
